*Berberis thunbergii A.P. de Candolle. Common name: Japanese Barberry. Phenology: Mar-Apr; May-Sep. Habitat: Rich forests, old fields. Distribution: Native of Japan. This species is immune to wheat rust; it is now the most commonly encountered barberry in much of our area.
ID notes: Some cultivars have yellow or purple leaves.
