Hamamelis virginiana Linnaeus var. henryae Jenne ex C. Lane. Common name: Small-leaved Witch-hazel. Phenology: Nov-Jan. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhill margins, xeric hammocks, streamheads, xeric river bluffs in the Fall-line Sandhills. Distribution: Sc. NC (Hoke County), e. SC (Horry and Hampton counties), s. GA, and Panhandle FL west to se. LA.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Though cited in Lane (2005) as var. henryi, the honoree is collector Mary G. Henry; thus the honorific epithet is corrected to the feminine. Additional study is needed of these small-leaved Coastal Plain populations.
