not marked as a favorite taxon Isotrema tomentosum (Sims) H. Huber. Common name: Woolly Dutchman's-pipe, Pipevine. Phenology: May-Jun. Habitat: Bottomland and riparian forests, stream and river banks, disturbed areas. Distribution: S. IN, s. MO, and se. OK, south to sw. GA, Panhandle FL, and c. TX. Also cultivated horticulturally and persistent or spreading more widely around eastern North America. FNA also reports that it is escaped in VA.

Height: 20-30 ft.

plant sale text: This species has a profusion of hairy, or tomentose, heart-shaped leaves and has potential for use as a screening or shade providing plant when grown on a trellis or arbor. Like Isotrema macrophylla, woolly dutchmans pipe is a host for pipevine swallowtail larvae, making it a prime choice for the butterfly garden. The growth may be kept in check, if desired, by occasional pruning and shaping.
