*Celastrus orbiculatus Thunberg. Common name: Oriental Bittersweet. Phenology: May-Jun; Aug-Sep. Habitat: Bottomland and riparian forests, mesic upland forests and bluffs, glade margins, disturbed areas, thickets, roadsides, forests. Distribution: Native of Asia. C. orbiculatus is grown for its attractive fruits; it has become a noxious weed in much of our area. The first reports of its occurrence in our region appear to be in the 1960's; it is now much more common in most of our area than its native relative, C. scandens.
