Malvastrum americanum (Linnaeus) Torrey. Common name: American False-mallow, Malva Loca, Malvilla, Babosita. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Palm groves (TX), tropical thickets, disturbed areas. Distribution: FL, e. and s. TX south through Mexico and Central America to South America; West Indies; also in the Old World tropics. The few collections from FL, all from disturbed habitats, and far distance from closest populations in TX suggest a convoluted nativity status in FL.
