*Brassica oleracea Linnaeus. Phenology: May-Aug. Habitat: Fields, gardens, disturbed areas, sometimes weakly persistent from cultivation. Distribution: Native of Eurasia. Commonly cultivated in our area in fields and gardens in a variety of forms.

Taxonomy Comments: The different human-developed growth forms of Brassica oleracea are sometimes treated taxonomically as varieties, but are better regarded as cultivars: e.g. B. oleracea var. acephala A.P. de Candolle (Collard Greens, Kale), B. oleracea var. capitata Linnaeus (Cabbage), B. oleracea var. italica Plenck (Broccoli), B. oleracea var. botrytis .Linnaeus (Cauliflower), B. oleracea var. gemmifera Zenk (Brussels Sprouts), and B. oleracea var. gongylodes Linnaeus (Kohlrabi).
