*Achyranthes bidentata Blume var. japonica F.A.W. Miquel. Common name: Japanese Chaff-flower. Phenology: Jul-Sep. Habitat: Bottomland forests, disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of e. Asia. Escaped in KY and WV (Mingo and Wayne counties) (Medley et al. 1985), n. AL (Limestone County) (Barger et al. 2019), nc. GA, s. OH, s. IN, w., c. and e. TN, and s. IL, and now acting as a serious invasive species (Evans & Taylor 2011). Also recently discovered in Fairfax County, VA along the Potomac River (N. DeBarros, pers. comm., 2022).
