*Achyranthes aspera Linnaeus var. pubescens (Moquin-Tandon) C.C. Townsend. Devil's-horsewhip. Hab: Disturbed uplands, hammocks. Dist: Reported for MD and s. FL (FNA, Kartesz 1999), the MD report dropped in Kartesz (2010).

Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics

Other Comments: Native distribution unclear, possibly native of West Indies and perhaps s. FL, but by some considered to be native only in the Old World.

Synonymy : = FNA4, K1, K3, K4, WH3, WI; = Centrostachys aspera (L.) Standl. – S; < Achyranthes aspera L. – Tx
