Stems: Stems thick and succulent, purplish, freely branched, rough-hairy.
Leaves: Leaves opposite (some alternate above); petiolate and widely spreading; to 4 in. long; pinnately divided into 5-13 lance-shaped or linear segments that are alternate or opposite on the rachis, each with 3-5 large teeth or lobes; hairy above.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Flowers solitary on short, hairy stalks from upper leaf axils (sometimes also terminal in droopy, few-flowered clusters); white to pale blue; 1/4 in. wide; bell-shaped; consisting of 5 corolla lobes (sometimes with tiny purple lines) and a hairy calyx with 5 lance-shaped lobes.
Fruits: Fruit a hairy, round, 2-sectioned capsule.
