Galium orizabense Hemsley ssp. laevicaule (Weatherby & Blake) Dempster. Common name: Bald Bedstraw, Smoothstem Bedstraw. Phenology: May-Aug. Habitat: Mesic forests, maritime forests, swamp edges. Distribution: Se. VA south to FL, west to se. TX; West Indies.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: The typic subspecies, ssp. orizabense, is distributed from Tamaulipas south through Mexico, Central America, to n. South America (Dempster 1981). Perhaps warranting specific status separate from G. orizabense.
