Odontostephana decipiens E.J. Alexander. Common name: Deceptive Spinypod. Phenology: Apr-Jul (-Sep); Jun-Oct. Habitat: Woodlands and thickets, generally over calcareous substrates. Distribution: S. Illinois, c. Missouri, and se. Kansas south to Louisiana and e. Texas. Previous reported distribution eastwards in Virginia south to nc. Georgia and ne. Mississippi appears to represent variability within M. caroliniensis (Fishbein & McDonnell 2023).
