Stylisma pickeringii (Torrey ex M.A. Curtis) A. Gray var. pattersonii (Fernald & Schubert) Myint. Patterson's Dawnflower. Phen: May-Sep. Hab: Longleaf pine sandhills, dry sandy prairies, open sandy woodlands, other dry sandy habitats. Dist: IL and IA south through KS and OK to w. LA and e. TX; disjunct in w. MS (the material somewhat ambiguous as to varietal affinity).

ID notes: Stylisma pickeringii is easily recognizable by its growth form, with numerous stems arching from a central point, then trailing radially away, forming a mound 1-2 meters in diameter. The narrowly linear leaves are borne vertically.
