Trichostema

Trichostema nesophilum K.S. McClelland & Weakley. Common name: Dune Blue Curls, Carolina Blue Curls. Phenology: Aug-Nov. Habitat: Dune on barrier islands, vegetated with perennial grasses (especially Uniola paniculata), openings in maritime scrub. Distribution: Endemic to barrier islands from slightly north of Cape Hatteras, Dare County, NC south to North Island, Georgetown County, SC, north of Cape Romain.

Other Comments: When growing together, the flowering period of T. nesophilum is about 2-3 weeks later than that of T. dichotomum. Despite a considerable overlap of blooming period, only one hybrid has been seen, and that in common-garden cultivation in the Piedmont.
