*Echium Linnaeus. Viper's-bugloss, Blueweed.
A genus of about 60 species, herbs, widespread in the Old World. The common name is pronounced ‘bew-gloss’, not ‘bug-loss’, as it refers to an ox's tongue rather than to the departure of insects.
