A genus of 2 species, aquatic herbs, native of tropical America (now subcosmopolitan in tropical and warm temperate regions by naturalization). Egeria should possibly be included in a more broadly circumscribed Elodea (including Elodea, Egeria, and Apalanthe) (Bernardini & Lucchese 2018).
