Symphyotrichum depauperatum (Fernald) Nesom. Serpentine Aster. Phen: Early Sep-Oct. Hab: Glades and barrens over ultramafic (serpentine) or mafic (diabase) rocks. Dist: MD and se. PA; disjunct southward in nc. NC. Falsely reported for Hardy County, WV (Harmon, Ford-Werntz, & Grafton 2006, Strausbaugh & Core 1978).
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Gustafson & Latham (2005) corroborated the distinctiveness of Symphyotrichum depauperatum from relatives and the apparent conspecificity of the NC population with MD/PA populations.
