Gentianella Moench. Common name: Gentianella, Agueweed.
A genus of about 250 species, annual and perennial herbs, temperate to arctic and alpine regions (Pringle 2023; Struwe & Pringle 2018). The separation of Gentianella from Gentiana appears to be well warranted; some characters suggest that Gentianella is more closely allied to Swertia, Halenia, and Lomatogonium than to Gentiana (Wood & Weaver 1982). Molecular analyses have confirmed this (Yuan & Küpfer 1995). Pringle (2023) discussed the division of Gentianella into two sections (or rarely 2 genera). We follow the sectional classification here.
