Liriodendron Linnaeus. Common name: Tulip-tree.
A genus of 2-4 species (or taxa), trees, relictually distributed, with L. tulipifera in e. North America and L. chinense (Hemsley) Sargent in c. China and n. Vietnam.
ID notes: Leaf characters of shade leaves and vigorous young shoots are highly variable and also show a variety of shapes not encountered in mature, sun leaves. The leaf characters in the key are based on mature, sun leaves subtending flowers/fruits. The length measurements of the leaf blades are made from the point of attachment of the petiole to the tip of the midvein.
