Mentzelia Linnaeus. Common name: Blazingstar.

A genus of about 80 species, herbs, shrubs, and trees, of America, especially in sw. United States and Mexico.

Glossary (beta)

ID notes: Plants have flowers solitary or in dichasia, 5-merous (in some species 5+ additional petaloid filament can cause flowers to look superficially 10+ merous), stamen numerous (8-50+, usually strongly exerted), fruit a capsule with apical dehiscence, ovaries conspicuously inferior, and leaves usually pinnately lobed (sometimes sparsely palmately lobed in M. oligosperma and M floridana).
