Talipariti Fryxell. Subfamily: Malvoideae. Tribe: Hibisceae. Common name: Mahoe.
A genus of about 22 species, trees and shrubs, of tropical America and Asia (and Pacific Islands). Perhaps better included in a broadly circumscribed Hibiscus (Pfeil & Crisp 2005); alternatively, Hanes et al. (2024) proposed retaining Talipariti and other relatives of Hibiscus while further splitting Hibiscus (and Pavonia) into monophyletic segregate genera. See Bovini (2010) for detailed discussion favoring species rank for our two taxa.
