Melastomataceae
Miconia
Miconia Ruiz & Pavón. Common name: Johnnyberry.
A genus of 1900 or more species, shrubs or trees, of the Neotropics and Paleotropics. If the genus Miconia were split into smaller, monophyletic segregates, the sole representative in our region should be placed in Miconiastrum Naudin, but the nomenclatural combination has not been made. For now, it seems best to treat Miconia broadly.
