Agave americana Linnaeus ssp. protamericana Gentry. Common name: Wild Century-plant. Phenology: Jun-Jul. Habitat: Sandy desert scrub. Distribution: Native to ne. Mexico; it is only known in the wild in our region from Starr County, TX.

Origin/Endemic status: Native

Taxonomy Comments: The Starr County, TX, plants are smaller in stature than those found in Mexico.
