*Bauhinia aculeata Linnaeus. Common name: White Orchid-tree. Phenology: Jun-Aug. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of the Caribbean region (Lesser Antilles, Mexico, and n. South America.
Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics
Taxonomy Comments: Wunderlin (2023) treats Bauhinia aculeata as having two subspecies, with ssp. aculeata widespread in the Caribbean and ssp. grandiflora (A.L. de Jussieu) Wunderlin native to Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru. They seem distinct at species rank.
