Cyperaceae
Eleocharis

Eleocharis xyridiformis Fernald & Brackett. Habitat: Sink holes, ponds, lake margins, depressions, roadsides, ditches, various other wetlands. Distribution: SD s. through KS, MO, OK, TX. South into Mexico, and further westward to AZ and CA.

Glossary (beta!)

Subgenus: Eleocharis. Section: Eleocharis. Series: Eleocharis.

Origin/Endemic status: Sw. North America

Other Comments: See the discussion under Eleocharis macrostachya [Variant a] in Smith et al. (2002), for which the provisional acceptance here is based. Further clarification is also needed for variant B (here recognized as a finer concept of E. macrostachya) and the 4 variants described under Eleocharis palustris. Plants trending towards E. macrostachya in the far western portions of the flora should consider this taxon, although it may not be as broadly distributed.

Synonymy : = FNA23, GrPl, not formally recognized; "almost certainly deserves taxonomic recognition, perhaps as a species"; = n/a — NS; < Eleocharis macrostachya Britton — FNA23, POWO; < Eleocharis palustris (L.) Roem. & Schult. — K4. Basionym: Eleocharis xyridiformis Fernald & Brackett 1929
