Bartonia paniculata (Michaux) Muhlenberg ssp. texana (Correll) K.G. Mathews, Dunne, E. York, & Struwe. Common name: Texas Screwstem. Phenology: Aug-Oct; Oct-Nov. Habitat: Baygalls, acid seepages. Distribution: Ssp. texana is endemic to the West Gulf Coastal Plain of w. LA and e. TX, where it is more-or-less sympatric with ssp. paniculata (Mathews et al. 2009).
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: The sympatry and similar habitat with its closest relative suggests that species rank may be warranted, despite the somewhat cryptic and overlapping morphological traits.
