Flowers: Flowers in narrow spikes at top of stem and from upper leaf axils, green, 1/8 in. long, with 3 tiny bracts surrounding each flower; male and female flowers separate.

Fruits: Fruit a seed surrounded by a dark reddish-brown, wrinkled membrane.
