not marked as a favorite taxon *Carthamus Linnaeus. Common name: Distaff-thistle.

A genus of 14 species, annual and perennial herbs, of the Mediterranean region. Generic circumscription follows Vilatersana et al. (2022) in separating Phonus from Carthamus.
