Chaptalia tomentosa Ventenat. Common name: Sunbonnets, Pineland Daisy, Night-nodding Bog-dandelion, Woolly Sunbonnets. Phenology: Dec (southwards)-May. Habitat: Pine savannas, sandhill seeps, pine flatwoods. Distribution: E. NC south s. FL and west to e. TX; allegedly disjunct in Hispaniola (Acevedo-Rodríguez & Strong 2012).

Horticultural Information
Intro: Erect perennial of wet pine savannas and flatwoods, sandhill seeps and wet streamhead margins.
Stems: Stem a leafless, white-woolly flowering stalk rising from the center of a basal rosette.
Leaves: Leaves basal only, elliptic to oblong-lance-shaped, 2-7 in.long, smooth above and white-hairy beneath; a few widely spaced teeth sometimes present.
Inforescence:
Flowers: Daisy-like, composite flowers (heads) solitary at top of stalk, nodding at first but soon erect; heads about 1 1/2 in. wide, consisting of narrow, white ray florets (may be pink or purple on lower surface) encircling a cream-colored central disk composed of tiny, tubular florets.
