not marked as a favorite taxon *Barbarea verna (P. Miller) Ascherson. Common name: Early Winter-cress. Phenology: Mar-Jun. Habitat: Fields, disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of Eurasia. Formerly a commonly used winter and spring green in rural parts of our area, still available canned as "Dry Land Cress".

Leaves: Basal leaves form a winter rosette and are up to 2½ in. long and deeply pinnately divided into 8-20 lobes; stem leaves alternate, also divided but smaller.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers in terminal and upper axillary racemes, yellow to pale yellow, composed of 4 tiny oblong-lance- to spoon-shaped petals forming a tube and spreading at their tips.

Fruits: Fruit a stalked, green, linear pod.
