*Humulus scandens (Loureiro) Merrill. Common name: Japanese Hops. Phenology: Jun-Oct; Jul-Oct. Habitat: Disturbed areas, particularly in rich, alluvial soils, where it has become a serious weed along some rivers in our region. Distribution: Native of Japan, Taiwan, and China.

Taxonomy Comments: The name H. scandens (Loureiro) Merrill (basionym Antidesma scandens Loureiro 1790) has priority over H. japonicus Siebold & Zuccarini 1846.
