not marked as a favorite taxon Commelina diffusa Burman f.. Common name: Creeping Dayflower. Phenology: Jun-Oct. Habitat: Mudflats, alluvial margins, bottomlands, also fields and disturbed ground. Distribution: Virginia west to Missouri, south to s. Florida and s. Texas, Mexico, Central America, South America, and the West Indies; Africa and e., se., and s. Asia. Probably native in our area, but sometimes regarded as an Old World species; the species was encountered very early inland, so it is plausible as a native or as an early introduction.
