Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, dry hammocks, and other dry woodlands, especially on dryish stream terraces. Distribution: Se. VA south to Panhandle FL, west to AR and e. TX, north in the interior to n. AL and w. TN.

Intro: Mostly prostrate, herbaceous perennial vine found in sandhills, dry hammocks and other dry woodlands, especially on dryish stream terraces.

Stems: Stems slender, trailing to slightly twining, much-branched and hairy.

Leaves: Leaves alternate, short-petiolate to sessile, oblong to elliptic with a rounded to notched base, to 2 1/4 in. long, slightly hairy.

Inforescence:

Flowers: Flowers 1-7 on long stalks from leaf axils, white, 1/2-1 in. long, funnel-shaped and with 5 long-pointed, smooth, green sepals surrounding the base.

Fruits: Fruit an oval capsule.

Comments: Flowers close quickly in direct sun.
