A genus of about 15 species, perennial herbs, of the tropics and subtropics.

Glossary (beta!)

ID notes: Abildgaardia is densely cespitose from a hard, bulbous base, with filiform blades > 1/2 as long as the culms. The spikelets are usually solitary and terminal on the culm, but there are sometimes 1-3 additional spikelets. The scales of the spikelets are distichous to sometimes irregular, the spikelet compressed laterally, either flat or twisted out-of-plane.
