Habitat: Spruce-fir forests, northern hardwood forests, grassy balds. Distribution: NL (Newfoundland) west to MB, south to NY, n. PA, MI, MN, and, at higher elevations in the Appalachians, to w. VA, w. NC, and e. TN.
