not marked as a favorite taxon Gentiana flavida A. Gray. Common name: Pale Gentian. Phenology: Aug-Oct. Habitat: Moist meadows, prairies, glades, openings in mesic forests. Distribution: Michigan west to Minnesota, south to n. Arkansas; with scattered disjunctions eastward to Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, and w. North Carolina.

Taxonomy Comments: The nomenclatural issues surrounding the correct name of this species (summarized at one point by Wilbur 1988c) have remained arcane; Pringle (2023) settled on G. flavida (see discussions), but others have had contrary opinions.
