Key to Gentianella

A genus of about 250 species, annual and perennial herbs, temperate to arctic and alpine regions (Pringle 2023; Struwe & Pringle 2018). The separation of Gentianella from Gentiana is well warranted; Gentianella is more closely allied to Swertia, Halenia, and Lomatogonium than to Gentiana (Wood & Weaver 1982; Kadereit & von Hagen 2025). Kadereit & von Hagen (2025) suggested the need to include Gentianella (and other genera) in Swertia. Pringle (2023) discussed the division of Gentianella into two sections (or rarely 2 genera); we follow the sectional classification here.
