Sabatia quadrangula Wilbur. Common name: Four-angled Sabatia. Phenology: Jun-Sep; Aug-Nov. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, moist forests, pocosin ecotones, seepages. Distribution: E. Virginia south to n. peninsular Florida, west to s. Alabama; disjunct in Eastern Highland Rim (Pulaski County, Kentucky; Tara Littlefield, pers. comm. 2020).
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: Sabatia quadrangula and S. calycina came out as somewhat unresolved in a genus-wide phylogeny for the e. US, perhaps originating from reticulation events (Matthews et al. 2015); more research is needed to disentangle the origin of these two taxa.
