*Psidium cattleyanum Sabine. Common name: Strawberry Guava. Phenology: Jan-Dec. Habitat: Disturbed areas. Distribution: Native of Brazil. Reported for most counties in the FL peninsula north to Marion and Volusia counties (Kartesz 2010; Wunderlin & Hansen 2008).
Origin/Endemic status: Neotropics
Taxonomy Comments: The epithet should be spelled 'cattleyanum'; the original spelling 'cattleianum' must be corrected (Shenzhen Code, Article 60.8: "Terminations contrary to the above standards are treated as errors to be corrected') to the last name of the honoree Cattley and the appropriate termination for an adjectival commemorative for an honoree whose name ends in a vowel: '-an-' (stem of adjectival suffix), and '-um' (gender inflection).
