Abronia macrocarpa L.A. Galloway. Common name: Large-fruit Sand-verbena. Phenology: Mar-Apr. Habitat: In clearings and post oak woodlands on deep Eocene (Carrizo) sand deposits. Distribution: Endemic to e. TX (Freestone, Leon, and Robertson counties).
ID notes: Abronia macrocarpa is the only species of its genus as far east as e. TX. Additionally, it is distinctive in its large, papery fruits.
