*Populus nigra Linnaeus. Common name: Black Poplar, Lombardy Poplar. Phenology: Mar-May; May-Jun. Habitat: Disturbed suburban areas. Distribution: Native of s. Europe. Cultivated in various forms, especially the columnar ‘Lombardy Poplar’; short-lived and weakly spreading to disturbed areas in the vicinity of plantings, especially by root sprouts (Diamond 2013).
