Bryodesma acanthonota (Underwood) Škoda. Common name: Spiny Spikemoss, Sand Spikemoss. Phenology: Jun-Aug. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, Altamaha Grit glades. Distribution: Se. NC south to s. FL, west to w. Panhandle FL.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Taxonomy Comments: The complex comprising S. acanthonota, S. arenicola, and S. corallina has been treated variably. The complex ranges from se. NC south to s. FL and west to c. TX; see Tryon (1955) and Valdespino in FNA (1993b) for additional information on the complex.
