Viola palmata Linnaeus var. 3 ["Red Hills palmata" variant] . Section: Nosphinium. Subsection: Borealiamericanae. Common name: Red Hills Violet. Phenology: Chasmogamous flower (Feb-) Mar-Jun; chasmogamous fruit Apr-Jul; cleistogamous fruit May-Oct. Habitat: Drier to dry sandy, sandy loam in dry oak and oak-pine woods and dry to dry-mesic savannas and closed forests, on slopes and bluffs. Distribution: Coastal Plain, w. GA sc. AL, LA, and s. AR.
