Carex deflexa Hornemann. Habitat: Rocky, exposed soils and outcrops. Distribution: Greenland west to AK, south to MA, n. NY, n. MI, and n. MN. A disjunct population in WV that has been referred to C. deflexa is actually Carex species 8.

Taxonomy Comments: Some authors have treated two infraspecific taxa within this species, however, var. boottii L.H. Bailey of w. North America is most closely related to C. rossii Boott.
