not marked as a favorite taxon Carex molestiformis Reznicek & P.E. Rothrock. Common name: Frightful Sedge. Phenology: May-June. Habitat: Bottomland forests, wet meadows, ditches, ravines, especially over calcareous substrates. Distribution: W. Virginia, West Virginia, s. Ohio, c. Kentucky, and c. Missouri south to nw. North Carolina, n. Georgia, c. Tennessee, n. Mississippi, sw. Arkansas, and se. Oklahoma (likely to be more widespread and more common in some areas, after further study).
