not marked as a favorite taxon Carex cristatella Britton. Common name: Crested Sedge. Phenology: May-Jul. Habitat: Grassy balds, fens, wet meadows, river shores, especially in calcareous or nutrient-rich alluvial soils. Distribution: Vermont west to Saskatchewan, south to w. North Carolina, Kentucky, Missouri, and Kansas. See Fox, Godfrey, & Blomquist (1952) for the first report from North Carolina. Rejected from the Tennessee flora (Tennessee Flora Committee 2015), but accepted by Tennessee Natural Heritage Program.
