Amauropelta noveboracensis (Linnaeus) S.E. Fawcett & A.R. Smith. Common name: New York Fern. Phenology: May-Aug. Habitat: Mesic forests, bottomland forests, bogs, submesic forests. Distribution: NL (Newfoundland) and WI south to GA, AL, and AR. Reported for MO by Brant (2018).
ID notes: Amauropelta noveboracensis is distinctive in the leaves tapering about equally to both tip and base.

It is useful for planting as an understory for shrubs in a woodland garden. In the wild, New York Fern is typically found near clearings in the swamps and forests of Eastern North America. This fern is best sited where it will receive a few hours of sun each day.
