Asclepias speciosa Torrey. Showy Milkweed. Phen: (Apr-) May-Sep; Jul-Oct. Hab: Floodplains and margins of streams and lakes, moist prairies, weedy in disturbed areas. Dist: MN west to BC, south to c. OK, n. TX, NM, AZ, and CA.

ID notes: A western North American sibling of Asclepias syriaca, and reminiscent of it. The two species hybridize extensively northwest of our region.
