Asclepias tuberosa Linnaeus var. rolfsii (Britton ex Vail) Shinners. Common name: Sandhill Butterflyweed. Phenology: Feb-Aug; May-Sep. Habitat: Longleaf pine sandhills, other dry, sandy habitats. Distribution: Se. VA south to s. FL, west to s. MS.
Origin/Endemic status: Endemic
Other Comments: The flowers are typically (but not always) lighter in color than those of var. tuberosa, yellow or yellowish-orange rather than deep orange to reddish. The first reported occurrence in Virginia is discussed by Belden et al. (2004).
