Axonopus compressus (Swartz) Palisot de Beauvois. Common name: Southern Carpetgrass, Tropical Carpetgrass. Phenology: May-Nov. Habitat: Moist disturbed areas, lawns. Distribution: Probably native in the se. United States, from SC south to s. FL, west to TX; West Indies; Mexico to South America.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Other Comments: Sometimes used as a lawn grass in the deep South.
