Carex jamesii Schweinitz. Section: [26kkk] Section 44 Phyllostachyae. Common name: James's Sedge. Phenology: Apr-Jun. Habitat: Nutrient-rich bottomlands, levee forests, and mesic slopes over calcareous or mafic rocks. Distribution: MD and NY west to MI, MN, and e. NE, south to c. SC, GA, and LA.
Origin/Endemic status: Native
Taxonomy Comments: Naczi (1999b) reported chromosome numbers of n = 33, 35. References to this species prior to 2001 include Carex timida, split from Carex jamesii in that year (Naczi & Ford 2001).
